Water, Food, and Energy Nexus: Why Mountains Matter

Rio+20 Side Event on Water, Food, and Energy Nexus: Why Mountains Matter will be jointly organised by Government of Nepal, ICIMOD and Mountain Partnership Secretariat (MPS) on 26 March 2012, Monday, 13:15 –14:45 at UN NLB Building in New York in the sideline of 3rd Intercessional Meeting of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD).

Expected to be addressed by H.E. Gyan Chandra Acharya, Ambassador PR of Nepal, H.E. Paul Seger, Ambassador PR of Switzerland, H.E. Cesare Maria Ragaglini, Ambassador PR of Italy, H.E. Tekeda Alemu,  Ambassador PR of Ethiopia, H.E. Enrique Roman Morey, Ambassador PR of Peru, Mr. Brice Lalonde Executive Coordinator of Rio+20 at the United Nations, Dr David Molden, Director General of ICIMOD and Mr. Olman Serrano, Coordinator of MPS, this side event has following expected outcomes:

  • Better awareness of the expectations and suggestions from the member countries and major groups in the revised Rio+20 outcome document
  • Sharing of actions to be taken to strengthen the nexus between water, food, and energy in the post Rio+20 scenario, including promotion of green economy in and beyond the mountains
  • Proposal of a new mountain agenda to promote sustainable development and poverty reduction
