African Climate Teach-In Day

This is a day devoted to lectures and lessons around the issue of climate change in Africa, to be held in universities and secondary schools across the continent.

The aims of the "African Climate Teach-In Day" are:

a) to disseminate scientific information on climate change in Africa, a way that allow is to be broadly understood, including elements related to its environmental, social, economic and policy aspects to schools and universities around the world;

b) to raise awareness among secondary and university students on the complexity of matters related to climate change in Africa and the need for personal engagement and action;

c) to provide an opportunity to introduce projects and other initiatives being undertaken at the international but also at the regional and local level by schools, universities, government bodies, NGOs and other stakeholders from across the African continent;

d) to discuss the problems, barriers, challenges and chances and potentials related to climate change in Africa, both at the local and at the regional level.

Last but not least, the "African Climate Teach-In Day" is meant to encourage more networking and information exchange among participants and hopefully catalyse cooperation initiatives and possibly new projects.

University lecturers and professors, as well as research agencies from across Africa, are warmly invited to take part on this unique event and contribute towards it by means of power point presentations, which will be reviewed and, upon acceptance, be available for downloading at the event´s web site.

The "African Climate Teach-in Day" is being organized in partnership with the the UN Environment Programme, UNESCO and the World Meteorological Organisation, the Ecological Society for Eastern Africa, the Sahara and Sahel Observatory and many institutions from across the African continent. The event is free of any charges.
