The 2nd workshop on climate change and migration in mountain areas

The 2nd workshop on climate change and migration in mountain areas will take place on May 28th and 29th 2013 at the University of Neuchatel (Switzerland). It will aim to bring together scholars with a strong interest in migration and climate change in mountain areas, covering the world’s major mountain ranges, including the Himalaya, the Andes and the Alps.

The development of a mountain-specific research agenda today appears necessary for a better understanding of the likely relationship between migration and climate change in affected regions.

The intention is to take stock of the existing knowledge, focusing on findings from empirical studies, and to develop a mountain-specific research agenda to understand the likely relationship between migration and climate change in affected regions over the next 2-3 decades.

The priority should be to better identify the role of environmental factors in past, current, and future migrations in mountain areas. In addition, considering that mountain areas are characterised by long-term migratory processes raises a specific set of questions.

We are pleased to share with you the program and further information for that will take place on May 28th (afternoon) and 29th (morning) at the University of Neuchatel (Switzerland).
