European Mountains: Free online libraries and periodicals on sustainable mountain development

The Mountain Forum Online Library is a collection of material focused on sustainable mountain development issues in an electronic form. It was established in 1996, with members of the Forum contributing academic articles, abstracts, features, reports, theses, bibliographic references and web resources, amongst others. It is searchable e.g. according to authors, key-words, titles, regons that are covered and contains currently more than 3000 documents mostly in English, with some contributions in French, Spanish and Russian as well.

The Mountain Institute (Institut de la Montagne) provides access to its on-line document library, containing currently more than 1000 documents mainly in French, but also in other languages. It is also searchable by author, title, subject, keyword, publisher and language of publication.

Mountain Forum publishes its Bulletin twice a year. Since 2005 each edition is dedicated to a mountain specific topic. The last edition, delivered in January 2010 is dedicated to Payments for Environmental services in Mountain Areas. Other editions were focusing e.g. on mountain biodiversity (July 2009), mountain agriculture (January 2009), management conflicts in mountains (July 2008), climate change (January 2008). La Revue de Géographie alpine / the Journal of Alpine Research is an international interdisciplinary magazine, that is publishing scientific articles related to territorial and environmental problems in the Alps and in european mountains; mountains of other regions of the world are covered by thematic editions on a comparative basis.
The magazine publishes simultaneously in French and English. Recent editions are available for free and searchable. The archive 1913 to 2006 is available for free through the site presse.fr
