European Mountain Forum is a network of individuals and organisations concerned with the well being of mountain people, their environments and cultures.
It bridges the different European mountain ranges by traditional networking (meetings, participation to conferences, projects, etc.).
EMF is also using new technologies of information and communication.
Currently, EMF network includes 618 individuals and 90 organisations.
EMF main dates
- 2006 - creation of new legal structure under French law, registered in Chambery in August. The Board of this new legal structure includes representatives from the main mountain organisations in Europe: AEM, Euromontana, UNEP (Regional Office for Europe), Fundacio Territori i Paisatge (Catalunya), Centre for Mountain Studies (Scotland).
- 2004 - establishment of the Mediterranean node with meetings in Barcelona and Les Planes de Son, Spain
- 2002 - general assembly - in Les Planes de Son, Spain
- 2002 - International Year of Mountains: 1000 members!
- 2001 - first Caucasus Summit and general assembly - in Gudauri, Georgia
- 2000 - general assembly - in Laissey, France
- 1999 - first general assembly of the Forum in Liptovsky Mikulas, Slovakia
- 1998 - registration of EMF, with UK statutes.
- 1996 - European consultation and the Recommendations of NGOs and Mountain people on sustainable mountain development - in Toulouse, France
