IDLO and UNCBD call for Research Interest in Aichi Targets

The International Development Law Organization (IDLO), in partnership with the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD), cordially invites interested legal researchers to join a new Global Network on Legal Preparedness for Achieving the Aichi Biodiversity Targets.  Opportunities are available to act as researchers, drafters, reviewers and mentors on studies that document innovative legal approaches in countries around the world that preserve the benefits of biodiversity for strong economies, livelihoods and cultures.  Whether you are an established legal expert on biodiversity law, or simply interested in building your skills in this emerging field of law, we invite you to send your application to IDLO atAichiLaw@idlo.int.  Your participation can be tailored to your interest, with both pro bono and honorarium-based positions available.

The Global Network is being formed in support of the IDLO-SCBD program on Legal Preparedness for Achieving the Aichi Biodiversity Targets, launched in 2012 with support from the Japan Biodiversity Fund.  The Program is expanding in 2013-14 with support from the GIZ ABS Capacity Development Initiative and Swiss Federal Office of the Environment to promote new thinking, train lawyers and find practical ways for countries to use law to help achieve the global goal to preserve biodiversity by 2020 under the Aichi Biodiversity Targets – on issues from access and benefit sharing, economic incentives, protected areas, ecosystem services and much more.
