This article introduces the topic of decision-making among the farming families. In the first section, the general idea of people's participation in agricultural development is touched upon. The second section briefly describes the geographical, social and economic context in which decisions are made by farming families in the area of Palpa district selected for study. In the third section, an example of decision-making is given and analysed. The final section raises a few uncomfortable questions and ends with a suggestion.
