Wildlife Training Opportunity for Young Graduates in Nepal

FON Nepal is pleased to announce a training opportunity for young Nepali graduates who pursue their future career in wildlife research and conservation. We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated and fascinating graduates for the training. We expect the training helps you to update yourself on the contemporary technics and methods for wildlife research and management through theoretical tutorials and ‘in situ’ field work. This program is financially supported by WWF/EFN.

Training location:

• 6 days tutorial (Kathmandu); and
• 13 days ‘in situ’ field work (Chitwan).

Duration: 10-28 December, 2012

Topics:

• Policies, acts, regulations, research needs and research priorities of 
wildlife management and conservation sector, Nepal
• Research techniques of mammals, insects (butterfly), birds and herpetofauna
• Camera trapping technique
• Ethno-zoology survey
• Overview on special researches (snow leopard, clouded leopard, 
wolf, owl, wildlife hunting and poaching) 
• Introduction of R analysis and GIS

Requirements: 

Academic: Bachelor/Master degree or thesis students or those are waiting for the results of their bachelor/master degree in Forestry, Zoology, Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Rural Development and Natural Resource Management

Language: Fluent in speaking and writing Nepali and English 

Equipment and accessories: Must have sleeping bag, trekking bag, water bottle, warm clothes, a pair of trekking shoes and preferably a laptop

Other: No experience needed, female candidates are encouraged to apply

Commitment:
• The trainee must be able to work in a group, in a harsh environment,
any time and place. 
• The trainee must work as an intern for six months in FON and must 
design a wildlife related project/proposal in collaboration with FON
Nepal after the training. They will independently run the project 
developed by them. 
• The trainee should not have problem to stay as a paying guest in a
village during the field work.

Number of participants:

• Total trainee needed: 10 (Ten)
• The trainee will be selected based on their interest, i.e., Mammals, 
Herpatofauna , Insects , Birds and Ethno-zoology.

Fees, accommodation and equipments:

• No application and training fee
• Lodging, fooding and transportation will be managed by FON Nepal.
• The basic resource books and equipment will be provided by FON Nepal 
during and only for the training.

• Recommendation letter from a referee from the conservation field 
(max 1 page)
• For student applicants, letter from university or institute (max. one page)

Disqualification:

• Incomplete applications will not processed
• FON Nepal is purely volunteer based non-profit making organization
(only for wildlife research and conservation field). No single telephone 
calls, emails and personal visits will be entertained in regard to 
selection process of the trainees
• Those who already have prior experience (s) in internship in different 
fields and organizations are discouraged to apply.
• FON Nepal reserves the authority to ignore your application and to 
remove you from the training if it recognize any false information
you provided while applying for the training.
• FON Nepal is not responsible to justify for your disqualification.
