Recent economic changes in a Newar village
The Kathmandu Valley which has always been a centre in the history of Nepal has also been a place where most development efforts have been concentrated. It is to be expected that considerable economic and social changes have taken place in recent years not only in urban areas, but also in rural areas linked to the major cities of the valley.
This article analyses recent economic changes in a Newar village (here fictionally called 'Satepa') situated about seven kilometres west of Kathmandu/ The data was collected at two points in time, first in 1970-71 and later in 1978.
