The Qhapaq Ñan Trust

The “Qhapaq Ñan Trust” (Patronato Qhapaq Ñan), which was recently established in Lima, is a non‐profit civil association whose objective is to carry out activities contributing to the revaluation, dissemination and promotion of the pre‐Hispanic road system estimated in 30,000 kilometers approximately in six countries, as well as the natural and cultural heritage related to this historic network. Its objectives include promoting the conservation, sustainability, and tourist development in the interests of local populations of the Qhapaq Ñan. One of its principal goals is to raise awareness of the value of this heritage and the developmental opportunities for populatons living near the roads, for recovering and/or strengthening the cultural identity of its inhabitants, and promoting the economic and social integration of the multicultural Peruvian nation.

In order to reach its goals, the Trust seeks to play a leading role in forming private‐public alliances and enterprises, recruiting companies committed to social responsibility and institutions interested in the preservation of the cultural and naural heritage.

Among the founding members of “Qhapaq Ñan Trust” are former members of the National Working Group on Mountain Ecosystems (GNTEM) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who have actively participated in matters related to the Mountain Partnership (Alianza para las Montañas), such as Carlos Amat y Leon, Elias Mujica, Carlos Loret de Mola, Paul Remy, Alejandro Camino and Ana Maria Ponce (these last two have served as Executive Director of the International Mountain Forum
