Potential and possibilities of garhwal himalayan region for Bioprospecting and technological integration

India predominantly is a rural country; about 3/4 of its population living in the villages are fighting with majority of socio-economic and political problems. In this endeavor, bioprospecting and technology can play important role, that have potential to become a main driving force for all rural developmental initiatives and sustainable socio-economic changes of the society and the natural resource conservation pattern. The present paper aims to discuss bioprospecting and technological integration possibility and potential in context of rural Garhwal Himalayan region. Recently, global commitment in form of Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), towards the conservation of biological diversity and the sustainable and equitable sharing of its benefits arising from the use of genetic resources. And the term Bio-prospecting has emerged as a new tool for capitalization of traditional wisdom and available natural resources. In above process, technology choice can have a critical impact on many aspects of rural transformation.
