Mountain Studies Institute

The Mountain Studies Institute (MSI) is a non-advocacy, non-profit mountain research and education institution in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. MSI's mission is to enhance the understanding and sustainable use of the San Juan Mountains through research and education programs. MSI serves as a center of knowledge in mountain research and education in the San Juans and, by extension, to mountain ranges around the world. MSI provides and facilitates field research, academic study, data collection and management, and experiential learning. Additionally, MSI provides facilities and logistical support through their center in Silverton, Colorado and high altitude field station.
