Mountain Forum Annual Report 2001

The year 2001 has been a full year of preparations for the International Year of Mountains 2002, so declared by the UN General Assembly in November 1998. The progress of activities and impacts of Mountain Forum and its constituent nodes have been put together in this second Annual Report of the Mountain Forum for the year 2001.

In the past year, the activities have focused on improving the communications channels and advocating the mountain issues at various international meetings and conferences. The Mountain Forum and its constituent regional networks have used innovative means to further the mission of information sharing, mutual support and advocacy.

As the organization is putting its energies in this years’ celebratory events, it is also important to improve communications at the grassroots level. This was possible with the support of all members and other organizations that continue to link up at various levels and are already reaching out to the grassroots in the local languages.
