WCSDOs have been established through the efforts of concerned community members and with the guidance of wild life conservation society (WCS).Northern Areas conservation Programme (NACP) and the government of Pakistan. WCSDOs are comprised of General Body and Executive committee. The former is consisted of all community members on the roll. Whereas the later is its cabinet responsible to:
I. Control and run the affairs of the organization.
II. Consider and dispose off all the matters relating to the organization.
III. Call and arrange the meeting of General Body and approve all the expenditure for affairs of the organization
As an organized and sensitized indigenous institution, WCSDOs plays a pivotal role and serves as an entry point for any conservation and development ventures through potential stake holders. It goes ahead on the way to progress in to integration with the chain or web as and when the situation so demands as each WCSDO has to play supplementary and complementary role in order to ensure effective conservation and development of natural resources of the region. Most of the communities enjoy common ownership rights of natural resources thus have to shoulders joint responsibilities to manage and conserve natural resources like wildlife wild lands and ecosystem processes (involving water, soil and vegetation)
Briefly speaking WCSDO is an indigenous institution representing the concerned community, catalyzing conservation or development activities and supplementing Govt ventures for up gradation of the living standards of local people. It gets its strength from its sub-committees for various disciplines lines e.g. Conservation, education, health, Diamer Dam affairs etc at the grass-roots level, its guidance from GOP line departments and WCS-NACP to tread on the road which ends at a flash point a sign of sensible and sustainable progress passing on to generations to come
The aim and objectives of the Mountain Conservation and Development Programmes (MCDP) is to undertake and support programmes and planes for natural resources management and social welfare of the area, work with the Government and NGOs in formulating future plans and policies, and take a supervisory and advisory role during implementation of various sustainable initiatives both in the public and private sector. The Programme only will take actions or support Programmes or policies that will improve conditions for the people, wildlife and ecosystem processes (involving water, soil and vegetation) in their area, not only for this generation but for generations to come. MCDP will refrain from, put a stop to, and determine policies and regulations to prevent unsustainable actions or actions that degrade conditions for people, wildlife, and ecosystem processes, whether these degraded conditions occur immediately or in the future.
