Institutional background The Bolivian Mountain Institute (BMI) is a La Paz based non-profit organisation dedicated to applied research in Bolivian high mountain areas. Inspired by the International Year of Mountains (IYM 2002), the BMI was founded in the same year, counting with its own modest offices since 2004. Our Mission In accordance with the UN Agenda 21 the mission of the BMI, as established in its founding charter, is as follows: “Contribute to a sustainable development of mountain regions in Bolivia by means of scientific investigation, capacity building and technical assistance, exchange of experience and the realisation of projects.”
