Hindu Kush-Himalayan Regional Media Workshop on Green Economy and Climate Change Adaptation
With pleasure we like to inform you about the Hindu Kush-Himalayan Regional Media Workshop on Green Economy and Climate Change Adaptation we are organizing from 2-4 November 2011 at ICIMOD Headquarters in Kathmandu, Nepal. This workshop is follow up of the South Asia Media Workshop on Adaptation to Climate Change we had in May 2011 and an attempt to educate and mobilize media community to advocate Mountain Agenda in the context of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, Rio+20 taking place in 2012 in Brazil from 4-6 June to mark the 20th anniversary of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED). As you are aware in the recent past we had several thematic conference and workshops on Rio+20 aiming at ‘policy makers’, ‘youth’ and ‘civil society’ members, this workshop will bring together and renew interest of another most influential group (media) in this exercise.
The workshop will be attend by 26 full-time media persons from the Hindu Kush-Himalayas – Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Nepal, and, few internationals and some other national and local reporters based in Kathmandu, Nepal. The workshop is structured in a way that the participants learn basics of Green Economy (GE), why GE is important in the context of SMD?, why do we need to advocate GE in SMD context from now leading up to Rio+20?, sharing of some key cases, what are effective ways of reporting on environmental issues (with focus on GE and SMD)? etc. There are groups works and filed visits, where we are hoping to take them to mountain technologies demonstration and training Centre and allow some community interactions.
