European Association of Elected Public Authorities from Mountain Regions
AEM was founded in 1991 on the initiative of the European Parliament Intergroup « Mountains », the French national association of elected representatives from mountain regions (ANEM) and the Italian national Union of Mountain Municipalities, Communities and Authorities (UNCEM). One of its primary objectives is to provide a platform on European mountain policy and European mountain issues for local and regional territorial bodies, elected representatives from European mountain regions and their organisations and associations. A close partner of the European Mountain Forum, AEM shares more or less the same vision and objectives as the Mountain Forum.
Their aims are: To bring together the elected representatives and the local or regional authorities of the European mountain areas and the organisations to which they belong ; to defend the interests of the mountain areas and populations ; to inform its members and public opinion of the problems and current events of direct or indirect interest for the mountain regions ; and, to promote a global, balanced policy for sustainable development of the European mountain areas.
