Community Knowledge Regarding Seismic Hazard: A Case Study from Gairigaun, Kathmandu, Nepal

Although Kathmandu is located in the seismically active zone, awareness level of general population regarding seismic hazard is low in comparison to its severity. This paper is planned to access the knowledge of community people from Gairigaun village of Kathmandu valley, Nepal.

People are just aware to shaking movements of earthquake not to the causes. The preparedness level of people regarding the seismic hazard is almost zero. During the shock or after the shock, only very few people in the community are likely follow the appropriate techniques in order to minimize the vulnerability. The situation after the shock is almost unpredictable; the area will experience devastating situation.
