CIFOR Vacancy Announcement: Post Doctoral Fellow, Equitable Benefit sharing for Sustainable Forestry

CIFOR is looking for a Post Doctoral Fellow, Equitable Benefit sharing for Sustainable Forestry
Overview:
This post doctoral fellow position will contribute to research that seeks to understand the factors that condition equitable benefit sharing in forestry settings that are characterised by multiple uses, users and values. Key issues for investigation include: a) sustainable use and conservation of production forestry, especially interactions between forest concession management and adjacent communities’ rights and benefits to forest resources; and b) the role of property rights/tenure regimes in enhancing equitable benefit sharing within and among communities involved in REDD+ schemes. The research aims to strengthen policy makers and relevant actors’ capacities to develop and implement strategies and processes that are inclusive of women and disadvantaged groups and that enhance their rights and access to forest resources, decisions and benefits.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Post Doctoral Fellow will contribute substantially to research design, data collection management, data analysis and production of research deliverables, as well the dissemination of research findings.
Main tasks comprise the following:
- Research design including developing hypotheses and data collection instruments
- Research management such as field testing data collection protocols, training partners in data collection methodologies, and stakeholder consultations to ensure the application of good practice in data collection and management
- Data analysis and contribution to the production of peer reviewed publications (including policy briefs) with internal and external collaborators
- Dissemination of results, such as organising feedback workshops to local communities, policy makers and relevant actors.
- Develop and identify funding opportunities
- Represent CIFOR at relevant meetings and events
Details of duties, assignments and objectives will be further discussed and laid out in the staff’s annual performance contract.
Requirements:
Education, Experience and Technical Skills
- PhD in public policy, political science, environmental studies or other relevant social science disciplines
- Experience in field based empirical analysis of institutional arrangements, forest tenure and property rights, public policies, multilevel governance, and local livelihood strategies especially related to forestry
- Strong background in interdisciplinary research with skills in mixed methods approaches
- Excellent skills in synthesis and review; familiarity with systematic reviews.
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills with demonstrated excellence in written and oral presentations
- Field experience in developing countries
- Knowledge of Kiswahili, Bahasa Indonesia, or Spanish

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, experienced in working with multicultural and multidisciplinary research teams
- Proactive and capable of working independently as well as in team environments
- Competency in personal organisation, priority setting and managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines
- Willingness to travel as required

Terms and conditions
- Competitive remuneration in US dollars commensurate with skills and experience.
- The appointment will be for a period of two years with a possibility of extension contingent upon performance, continued relevance of the position and available resources.
- The duty station will be at CIFOR headquarters in Bogor, Indonesia, with travel to research sites.
