Announcement Swiss-Austrian Alliance and Mountain Days

The wind of change is blowing in the Swiss and Austrian Alps! The refreshing breeze was induced by the Memorandum of Understanding on ‘Research collaboration in the Alps’ that has been signed by the Swiss State Secretary for Education and Research and the Austrian Minister for Science and Research in Fall 2011. Lets capitalize on the concentrated forces and embrace the new opportunities!

The Swiss-Austrian Alliance launched to implement the Memorandum aims to strengthen and develop bilateral activities in the field of mountain research. This includes the promotion of scientific networks, the coordination of thematic activities and the facilitation of the dialogue between research and practice (CH-AT Alliance.pdf). Accordingly, the Alliance, in the first instance, fosters collaboration between members of existing mountain research networks, namely MRI (Europe), ICAS (Switzerland), IGF (Austria) and others.

Benefit from the Swiss-Austrian Alliance!

• Do you want to deepen existing relations to Swiss and Austrian mountain researchers or initiate a thematic network?
• Do you want to address an important research topic with the support of Swiss and Austrian peers?
• Do you want to be part of a mechanism that promotes funding for mountain research at the national and European level?
Taking your interests into consideration, we would like to organize the Swiss-Austrian Mountain Days on 11-13 June 2013, Mittersill, Austria (Mountain Days 2013.pdf). This event is organized in coordination with the international Symposium for Research in Protected Areas (10-12 June 2013) in the same place. Participants are encouraged to attend both meetings (see timetable).

To make the event rewarding, we would like to invite you to submit your ideas and potential contributions related to thematic networks and bilateral partnerships, but also regarding plenary speechesoral presentationsthematic sessions, topics for round table discussions, etc. In addition, examples of successful Swiss-Austrian research partnerships are of interest. Contributions of interest to both, the Swiss-Austrian Mountain Days and the Symposium, will be considered for the joint program part in the afternoon of June 11, 2013.

The languages of the Mountain Days are German and English (without simultaneous translation). Accordingly, proposals can be submitted in German or English.
Please use this online form for your submission until the end of November 2012.
Thanks a lot for your inputs!
