Monday, Sept 30: Warming up

All Day Check-in, registration of participants, set up stalls/exhibits.
16:00 - 17:00 Press Conference
18:00 - 19:30 Warm up and getting to know each other ("Gataen" or Carnival with music, mountain dances, exhibition stalls)
19:30 Dinner

Tuesday, Oct 1: Setting the Stage

8:30 - 9:30 Registration
9:30 - 11:00 Opening Ceremony - Welcome to Bhutan (30 minutes)
  • Her Majesty the Queen* addresses the conference and declares it open (20minutes)
  • Welcome addresses (Royal Government of Bhutan, ICIMOD, ODA- Japan, UNIFEM, IFAD, SDC, Others) (45 minutes)
  • Video clips of women from around the world "Mountain Women Speak" (15 minutes)
11:00 - 12:00 Key note address ………………………* (45 minutes)
12:00 - 12:30 Group moves into the Carnival area. Her Majesty the Queen* cuts the ribbon of stalls' area and meets participants to the sound of music in the background
12:30 - 14:30 Lunch
14:30 - 16:30 Introductory session on 5 themes (20 minutes each)
  • Natural Resources and Environment
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Legal, political and human rights
  • Health and Well being
  • Culture and Indigenous Knowledge
16:30 - 17:30 Open discussion
17:30 Networking, interaction, films, music, dances, tents
19:30 Dinner

Wednesday, Oct 2: Issues and Ideas/Theme Sessions (in break out groups )

9:00 - 13:00 Participants will break into 5 groups to listen, share and discuss the theme areas. Each group will have facilitators / thematic leaders to guide the process.
  • Natural Resources and Environment (Esther Njiro and Zuo Wenxia, China )
  • Entrepreneurship (Sally Fisher/Carroll Dunham, Wild Earth, Nepal, and…. )
  • Legal, political and Human Rights (Adele Pander, Bolivia, &)
  • Health and Well Being (Farah Usmani, Pakistan, Anne Leipig, USA)
  • Culture and Indigenous Knowledge (Dr. Lyn Bennett*, World Bank ? and ….)
13:00 - 14:30 Lunch
14:30 - 17:00 Theme Groups continue
17:00 - 19:30 Networking and interacting : Fashion Show; Tents; Films
  • Circulate draft of "Thimphu Declaration"
19:30 Dinner

Oct 3, Thursday: Summing up in Theme Groups

9:00 - 12:30 a) Prepare summary of the Theme discussions
b) Prepare Bhutan (Thimphu ) Declaration
12:30 - 14:30 LUNCH
14:30 - 17:00 a) Present Theme summaries
b) Present Bhutan (Thimphu) Declaration
19:30 Dinner

Oct 4, Friday : IN THIMPHU

10:00 - 11.30 Closing program at the Royal Banquet Hall.
  • Valedictory Address (Najma Heptulla, Speaker of the Rajya Sabha, Government of India*, and President of Inter-Parliamentary Union) (30 minutes)
  • Adoption of Bhutan (Thimphu)Declaration / Message to BGMS (20 minutes)
  • Closing address by Representative of Royal Government of Bhutan (15 minutes)
  • Thank you by Director General - ICIMOD (15 minutes)
12:00 Press Conference
12:30 - 13:30 Closing Lunch
19:00 Gather to return to Paro.
