[Only seven participants submitted the survey form. Please find below their feedback. -MF-Asia Moderator]
***************************************************************************
1. Have you participated in an email conference before this? Was this one any
different? If so, how?
***************************************************************************
-Yes. There are more examples presented in this one.
-Yes, once. This seemed a bit slower and less interactive as it seemed to take 24 hours for the emails to get cleared and posted. It seems more dynamic when you can just reply and your response is up there quickly, and then you might get more responses.
- Yes. This was well moderated. It had specific questions and the moderator's inputs have been good.
- This is my first.
- YES.
- Yes, Yes. This was very disciplined and focused. It incorporated many of the nice features of a Mountain Forum e-conference and built upon them in its own style. Very enjoyable and enriching!
- Yes, the participation was more from all around.
***********************************************************************************************************************
2. Do you anticipate sharing any of the materials from the e-conference? If so,
how? (Community action, policy development, training, project design, research,
lectures, school work, etc.)
***********************************************************************************************************************
- Yes, in the coming training.
- Good contacts which will help my understanding and research. I have already received a CD from one participant.
- There are some useful analysis which can be collated into projects. There are also several questions that this conference has raised (and not necessarily answered them), which will prove useful direction for future research.
- Community action, training and lectures.
- YES IN MY TEACHING.
- Yes, I will use the email archive as a reference tool.
- For research and policy development.
*************************************************************************************************************************
3. Have you made any useful new contacts as a result of this e-conference? In
the light of the e-conference how do you intend putting these contacts to
further the outcome?
*************************************************************************************************************************
-
- I am undertaking post-grad research in the next 2 years, and I hope the contacts I have made will be useful for this, and help guide me to produce something that is actually useful, rather than another 5 kgs of unread research.
- Yes, several new contacts. They are also likely to link up for a future project idea that we are working on.
- No, I have not made any new contacts so far.
- NO.
- No direct contacts, but the email archive will be an excellent source of contacts whenever I am asked for referrals to experts.
- Yes, I have got contacted with many professionals, in RETs and hope to get in touch with them to get as much as input as possible.
**************************************************************************************
4. What aspect(s) of the conference did you find most helpful?(Moderation,
Themes discussed, Postings, Website)
**************************************************************************************
- Themes were good.
- I like the way the topics were broken up into topics - kept the focus.
- Moderator's comments were useful, themes were well thought out, website could be better linked.
-.Themes discussed.
-.MODERATOR SUMMARIES AND THEMES.
- Themes were great. Moderation was excellent. The subject lines were very helpful. I especially appreciated the week one summary provided by Girish Kharel. It would be extremely nice to have summaries of the other weeks, even if they are late.
- Moderation as well as themes discussed.
*****************************************************************************
5. If you were one of the moderators of this e-conference, how would you have
done things differently?
*****************************************************************************
-
- Allowed faster postings to increase participation (I would hope, anyway)
- A lead paper to contextualize the scenario as of now, and well researched would save a lot of repetitive contributions.Moderator must try to bring in a new thought in every contribution. I wonder if the moderator sought specific responses from known experts/colleagues, such an extra effort would have made the deliberations sharper.
- I don't think so.
- I DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO FOLLOW IT CLOSELY ENOUGH. PERHAPS IF THESE EXCHANGES ARE KEPT SOMEWHERE, ORGANIZE THEM BY TOPIC, BECAUSE TOPICS WILL BE DISCUSSED AT VARIOUS TIMES.
-
- Not really thought about it.
******************************************************************************************************
6. Which of your expectations weren't met through the conference? And why did
you not raise them during the course of the conference?
******************************************************************************************************
- Community-based management of micro-hydropower is the sustainable way.
- I don't know if e-conferences like this acheive that much, but I didn't want to dampen the enthusiasm of those involved by saying so.
- A number of postings were repetitive concepts or known issues. However, I was a major listener to this conference.
- I left expectations open and am satisfied with the turnout.
- IT WAS OK.
- All expectations were met, except that it would be lovely to have weekly summaries since I wasn't able to read every posting in detail.
-
*********************************************************************************************
7. How often did you visit the APMN e-conference website at <http://www.mtnforum.org/apmn/RETs.htm>?
Was it useful?
*********************************************************************************************
-
- Not at all....sorry!
- Yes, it could have better links, and it would be useful to have them up the same day as the posting came. We might have a datewise and themewise listing, as also keyword search link.
- Every other day. Yes, it was useful.
- NOT AT ALL.
- Twice, at the beginning and end. Nicely done.
- Yes, I often visited the website and found it very useful for my research.
**************************************************************************************************************************
8. The APMN is looking forward to organizing another e-conference on
"Mountain Children" in 2002. What issues (impacts of
out-migration/conflicts in mountains on children, child labour issues, etc.) do
you wish to see addressed then?
**************************************************************************************************************************
- Yes, it is important to attract people with a common ground.
- No thank you.
- Cannot respond now in detail. But I am particularly interested in conflicts in mountains and impacts on children.
- a) Who is a child - what is the cut-off age for children. Mountain and IP children take on adult responsibilities while age-wise still a "child". b) How can mountain children cope with changes, i.e. the expansion of their 'worlds'? What would they have to trade off?
-
-Girl children's education and age of marriage.
-Child labour issues .
************************************************
9. Any final words (criticisms, suggestions, opinions, anything)?
************************************************
- It is better to summarise the general agreement, disputable issues and key data.
- No.
- Wish you can run this at least bilingual - Nepali/Hindi and English. This will make this a unique experiment. Also, we may have several new contributors.
- Look forward to 2002's e-conference.
-
- Bravo! A delightful e-conference!
- Appreciation for the organizing committee.
